HOW TO PROTECT YOUR INSTALLATION FROM LOW TEMPERATURES
Grandmothers always have to be listened to. Take note and, this winter, protect your water to avoid freezing problems in your installation.
Remember to always keep the door of the meter closed
Periodically check that the meter door is properly closed to avoid contact with the outside. This way you greatly reduce the chances of freezing.
Shelter the interior recess of the meter cabinet
Use crumpled newspaper or insulating fabrics like wool or fiberglass to protect the interior hole of the cabinet where the counter is located. Remember to always leave the part of the sphere visible.
Cover the installation with polyurethane foam, polystyrene or other insulating material
To avoid freezing, try to cover the pipes around the meter with polyurethane foam, polystyrene, or another insulating material.

Never force the stopcock and apply gentle heat
In case your installation is already frozen, do not force the stopcock as it could break. It is best to apply gentle heat through an electric dryer or other tool, but never by applying direct fire to the installation.
Pour boiling water over the metal parts
You can also pour boiling water over the metal parts, the stopcock, and the meter itself. This usually works if the freezing is not very severe, allowing the water to flow through the installation again.

All these tips can help you avoid frost and breakdowns that can leave us without supply on days of continuous low temperatures. So remember: this winter bundle up and shelter your water!
