Urban drainage

To manage the large volumes of wastewater, we have the urban drainage system: a network of infrastructures designed to transport it, in a controlled and efficient way, to the treatment plants, thus guaranteeing its correct treatment before returning to the rivers.

Key infrastructure

Storm waste water tanks

Storm water tanks are large underground reservoirs that store initial rainwater to prevent waste water treatment plants from exceeding their capacity and discharging untreated excess into waterways. Canal de Isabel II manages over 70 storm tanks with a total capacity of more than 1.40 hm³. The Arroyofresno waste tank, with a capacity of 400,000 m³, is one of the largest in the world.
